How to Choose a Grilling Apron That Fits

Check coverage, tie length, and pockets before picking an apron for yourself or as a gift.

A grilling apron should sit comfortably over your clothes, keep sauce off your shirt, and let you reach the back of the grill. Start with fit and coverage, then pick a design you’ll want to put on when friends come over.

Check coverage and tie length

Measure from the upper chest to where you want the apron to end. Compare that measurement with the length on the product listing and check the body width as well. Try the fit over the layers you normally wear outdoors, especially if you grill in a sweatshirt.

Look at the tie length if you prefer to tie an apron in front. Once it’s on, reach forward and squat as if you’re picking up a tray. The bib should stay where you put it, and the hem should leave you room to move.

Look for pockets you’ll use

Think about what you reach for most. A pocket that fits a capped instant-read thermometer or a clean folded towel can save trips to the prep table. Keep a separate place for utensils that have touched raw food and use suitable heat-resistant gloves for hot cookware.

Check the washing instructions before buying. If you grill with sticky marinades, easy cleanup may matter more to you than extra pockets.

Make it an easy gift

For Dad, the Apron Men BBQ Legend design leans into the backyard-grill joke. Dude with the Food is a lighter option for the friend who always brings dinner. Check the listing for the fit and color you want before choosing.

To make the gift personal, pair the apron with a plan to cook together. A batch of smash burgers, a sharp salad, and a spot near the grill make a good place to start.
